Evidence for Evolution Paragraph Last week we talked about lots of different ideas that can serve as evidence for evolution. Use the outline to organize your thoughts before writing. Fill in the detail bubbles. Details can include Definitions Examples Different types Reasons why it is considered evidence

When finished with quiz Open wolf book to page 236 Preview section called Natural Selection In the Tuesday Spot of your new weekly packet, write down the 4 main points of natural selection (found in italics)

Darwin’s idea – Natural Selection Variations exist in populations Some variations are favorable Not all young produced in each generation can survive The individuals that survive and reproduce have the favorable variation and pass it on

Let’s Practice (in Wednesday spot): What are some adaptations that help this organism to survive? How did the organism get these adaptations according to Natural Selection?

So… why do variations exist? Mutations in DNA Genetic Shuffling (from sexual reproduction)

Natural Selection Brain Pop

Why don’t all individuals in a population have the favorable trait? Natural selection doesn’t work on genes, it works on entire organisms (with lots of traits) More than one trait contributes to survival Different variations may be favorable in different circumstances

When Done… Flip over, try the brainpop activity on the back Turn into the box Pick up two papers next to the box – Natural Selection Dinner Menu and get started
