What is Transcendentalism? Subgroup of Romanticism Romanticism was all about individuality, nature, and emotions over reason A literary movement that believes truth exists beyond reason and experience In order to learn about God, the universe, and self, one had to transcend his physical experience

So what does that mean? Don’t place value in the material parts of life Instead, go out and DO stuff! Think about how you relate to everything around you Connect this to the butterfly effect A butterfly flaps its wings in PG, and a hurricane brews in the pacific By discovering how you’re a part of this world, you can transcend this world and know God
