Energy Transformations Heat Energy Transformations
Today’s lesson: There are many forms of energy Energy can be changed from one form to another Thermal energy is the total energy of the moving particles in a solid, liquid or gas.
Energy: Is the ability to make objects move.
Example: The energy in fuel for cars.
There are 10 forms of energy!
1. Thermal Energy: Total energy of moving particles in a solid, liquid or gas generated by heat.
2. Chemical Energy: Energy stored in matter such as food and fuels.
2. Magnetic Energy: The energy that causes some types of metal to attach or push away from other metals.
4. Light Energy: A form of energy that our eyes can detect.
5. Gravitational Energy: Stored energy an object has when it is above the Earth’s surface.
6. Electrical Energy: Energy of particles moving through a wire or through an electrical device.
7. Elastic Energy: Energy stored in objects that are stretched, compressed, bent or twisted.
8. Sound Energy: Form of energy we can hear.
9. Mechanical Energy: Energy of objects in motion.
10. Nuclear Energy: Stored at the center of particles of matter. Nuclear power plants produce electricity from nuclear energy.
Energy Transformation: Changing from one form of energy to another. Chemical energy – thermal energy Energy Transformation: Changing from one form of energy to another.
