Homework: Read Chapter 4, Lesson 3 Continue to work on Ch. 4 H.W. packet Warm UP: 1: Get out your lab sheet and turn to page 114 in your science textbook. Fill in the “materials” section on your lab sheets. If you did this last night, check and make sure your group members have theirs filled in and help them if necessary. 2: GET OUT SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS AND OPEN TO A FRESH PAGE – WRITE THE DATE

Today we will….. Review the procedures for our lab Learn about roots Do the lab As a class, create and discuss an appropriate chart for recording our lab data Close by reviewing why we set up this lab today and key concepts we learned in class

Goal and Standard Goal: SWBAT demonstrate the ability to select appropriate graphical representations by choosing what to record their data in. SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of plant organs by discussing different types of roots and their function. Standard: Life Science: Students know how sugar, water, and minerals are transported in a vascular plant.

In your notebooks……… Roots…… Root – an organ that holds plants in place, stores food, and absorbs water and minerals Taproot (long and straight down), fibrous root (“feathery” and spread out) – different structures and functions Special cells at the root tips divide and form new cells (root growth) Some taproots are edible (think carrots, beats, radishes)

Now let’s do the lab…..

Charts and Graphs….. What are we looking at below?????

Position of Bean Direction of Roots Thursday, Oct.17 Friday, Oct. 18 Monday, Oct. 19 Bean 1: Bean 2: Bean: 3 Bean: 4

Closing it up….. Why did we do this lab today? What did we learn about today?
