Compound sentence with elliptical construction Art of Styling Sentences: Pattern 2

So…What does this all mean? S V DO or SC ; S , DO or SC. This is similar to pattern 1A (compound with a comma) but now we are getting rid of the second verb This can be useful when discussing a range of similar actions (the audience will assume this because you don’t need to mention it twice) Elliptical clauses add elegance and efficiency to your sentences. Subject Direct Object or Subject Compliment Subject Direct Object or Subject Compliment Verb (action) No Verb!

Direct Object or Subject Compliment? Bob plays hockey; myself, polo I like Margherita Pizza; Dad, Meatlovers He was late; myself, early These sentences use direct objects (the sports – hockey and polo; and the pizza toppings – Margherita and Meatlovers This sentence uses a subject compliment (relates to the punctuality, which is an action or verb)

Now it is your turn Have a go at writing 4 Compound sentences with elliptical construction Write two that use direct objects (actual things) and two that use subject compliments (something that has to do with an action)
