AP Exam Tips – there are a lot! Political responses to the Great Depression around the world are “must know” information for the AP exam. (pg. 990) Take notes on key political, social, and economic effects of twentieth- century world wars. You need to know the definition and examples of twentieth-century authoritarian governments. Take notes on the features of fascism and be prepared to compare them with those of communism when you read Chapter 21. Pay close attention to causes of the rise of authoritarian governments in the early twentieth-century. (pg. 996) You should be able to cite examples of repression of minority groups in the twentieth-century, like that of Jews in Europe. You should know the effects of technology on twentieth-century warfare casualties. (pg. 1008) The twentieth-century concept of “total war,” including its effect on women’s roles, is an important one in the AP course. Note that Europe’s colonial power was greatly diminished after WWII. You must know examples of international peace-keeping movements in the twentieth century, like the United Nations. It’s important to note that the European Union is a rare example in history of unity on the European continent. NATO is an important example of a military alliance in the twentieth century. You need to know contrasts between the economic outcomes of WWI and WWII.

Great Britain granted independence to India in order to focus on the British unemployment crisis. The United States refused to pay war reparations.
