Subtracting Whole Numbers and Decimals Unit 2 Lesson 6

Rally Robin With your eyeball partner, decide who is awesome and who is the best. The partner who is awesome will be Partner A. The partner who is the best will be Partner B. Review the four steps to subtracting decimals. Partner A will give the first step and go back and forth until all four steps have been reviewed. Then switch roles and Partner B start first the second time.

Drop It! Never forget the last step After you line the numbers up, add zeros, and subtract, don’t forget to…. Drop It!

What do you notice about the numbers below? What do we get if we subtract one of the bottom numbers from the total? Which number is the total?

Another Break Apart drawing 4,000 3,836 164 4,000 164 3,836

Team Pair Solo Create break apart drawings for the following problems 4,000 – 3,836 = 164 3.57 + 4.67 = 8.24 8.24 – 4.67 = 3.57
