How quickly does the gratitude of Thanksgiving Day turn into the “gimmies” of Christmas? Why?

11 I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. 12 I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content—whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. 13 I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13

 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Can we try to keep up with the Joneses and join Jesus at the wilderness table for two at the same time?

Does Jesus’ words apply to more 23 Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:23-24 Does Jesus’ words apply to more than the rich?

23 Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will save it. 25 For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself? Luke 9:23-25

What baggage do we need to drop so we can pass through the needle’s eye and enjoy intimacy with Jesus?
