Questioning By: Natalie & Izabella

Metacognitive Reading Strategies Readers ask questions before, during, and after reading Readers ask questions for many reasons, both in school and in their personal lives To clarify meaning Make predictions about the text Help you interact with the author Help you figure out what you want to learn Focus attention on specific parts of the text Locate a specific answer in the text To keep your mind alert as you interact with the text, keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next as you search for answers How do readers figure out answers to their questions? Right There Think and Search On Your Own

Reading Strategy: Questioning Good readers think of questions while they are reading. These questions help keep the reader engaged. Good readers ask questions to: Construct meaning Enhance understanding Find answers Solve problems Find specific information Acquire a body of information Discover new information Propel research efforts Clarify confusion

Questioning: Text Codes ? - To show questions that have come to mind while reading A - To show questions that have been answered BK - To show questions answered from someone’s background knowledge I – To show questions whose answers can be inferred from the text D – To show questions that can be answered by further discussions RS – To show questions that require further research to be answered C or Huh? – To show questions that signal confusion

Questioning to understand Asking questions and looking for answers – Before I read As I read After I read I wonder… I was confused when… How could that be? Why do you think? Who… What… Where… When…
