Presentation transcript:

Bellringer: May 6th period 2 On the piece of paper I gave you, write down the most interesting or shocking part of Act II for you. Explain why you found it interesting or shocking. If you didn’t finish Act II, just own up to it so that I’ll know why you’re asking certain questions.

Shylock’s Famous speech examine how Shakespeare sets up the syntax of this speech in Act III scene I. What else is preying on Shylock besides Antonio’s treatment of him? Re-write the speech to fit a different “much put-upon” person.

Bassanio’s choice Act III Scene 2 How is Bassanio’s logic different from the Prince of Moracco and the Prince of Arragon? What message about wealth does Shakespeare seem to be sending by having us compare these three men?

Read Act III! Middle of the play! Look for the plots to become complicated! Tensions will increase! Overlap will occur! Be on the lookout for the comment about humanity with regards to how money, love, religion, law, marriage, justice, and mercy interrelate.

Ticket out May 6 Portia tells Jessica and Lorenzo to stay at her house in Act III. Why do Jessica and Lorenzo need to hide out somewhere? Why are some people (Antonio, Portia) so generous?
