OLE’s Art Program History 1995 – loss of a full-time art teacher; dedicated OLE families set out to create new art offerings. Today – OLE has four art programs: White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) Six annual art classes taught by WBCA’s Community Art Instructors Resident Artist – Lisa Servatius* STEM-inspired art classes in October Art Adventure* (AA) MIA’s annual art program taught by volunteers in November Art in the Classroom*(AITC) Monthly art classes, beginning in December, taught by volunteers * PTA-funded

OLE’s Art Program Objectives To educate students about the basic art concepts of line, shape, texture, color and art appreciation. To bring these concepts to life through creative projects, classroom discussion and individual expression.

Art Adventure (AA) / Overview Program created by Minneapolis Institute of Art Discussion-only in classroom to explore global art / art appreciation concepts Lesson consists of three 45-min to 1 hr discussions - November 2016 Training at MIA: Two day and two evening dates available in October Committee: Megan Baumler Krista Dickenson Jill Macioch Ellen Maruyama Renée McCabe JJ Parker

AA / Roles & Responsibilities RESPONSIBILITY TIME COMMITMENT AA Committee Liaison between OLE and Minneapolis Institute of Art Schedule classes* Schedule training for volunteers Collect/drop off MIA props AA Volunteers (Picture Person) Attend MIA training** Review program booklet Lead 30 to 45-min discussion with students 1 hour, 3 times Nov 2015 ONLY * Coordinate with teachers’ and volunteers’ availability. ** Suggested and EXTREMELY helpful, but not mandatory

Art in the Classroom (AITC) / Overview Monthly lessons focus on a single concept (line, shape, color or texture / clay) and include a project with hands-on art time. Can be take place in the classroom or the Art Room (based on room availability).

AITC / Roles & Responsibilities RESPONSIBILITY TIME COMMITMENT AITC Classroom Lead Primary contact for each classroom Schedule classes* Review online lesson plan Room set-up and clean up Lead class discussion Assist students 2 to 3 hours per month AITC Classroom Volunteer Help with set-up and clean up Cover for Classroom Lead if not available 1 to 2 hours * Coordinate with classroom schedule and, if wanted, Art Room availability

OLE’s Art Programs – Scheduling AA (November) Committee schedules with teachers 30-min. to 1-hour lessons Committee contacts volunteers to assign classroom dates/times AITC Classroom Lead schedules the lesson dates based on classroom and Art Room availability. Most lessons CAN happen in the classroom. The Art Room is shared with WBCA, Extended Day (before and after school) and teachers as they need it throughout the year. All clay lessons and painting lessons held in the Art Room if at all possible.
