Weather Calendars Part 1

Daily Objective Weather describes conditions in the air outside. Meteorologists are scientist who study the weather. Scientific journals record what is observed.

Vocabulary Weather - The condition of the air at a given time Meteorologist - A scientist who studies the weather Monitor - To observe and record observations about something over time Symbol - A picture that represents the weather Sunny - When the weather is bright with few or no clouds Partly Cloudy - When it is sunny outside but there are lots of clouds in the sky Overcast - When the sky is gray and cloudy, but it is not raining or snowing Rainy - When the sky is cloudy and raining or drizzling Snowy - When the sky is cloudy and snow is falling

Introduction Today we are going to begin to study weather. For, the next month we will use a calendar to keep track of the different kinds of weather.

Observations and Discussions Lets go outside to feel the air and check the weather How did the air feel? Could you feel the moving? Did you see anything that tells you the air is moving? What kind of weather did you see?

Observation and Discussion Weather Symbols One way that meteorologists record information about the weather is with symbols. Lets look at some symbols.

Observation and Discussion Weather Symbols Rainy weather is when it’s cloudy and raining or drizzling. Snowy weather is when it’s cloudy and snow is falling. Sunny weather is when it’s bright and sunny with few or no clouds. Partly cloudy weather is when it’s sunny but there are lots of clouds in the sky.

Observation and Discussion Calendar Everyday we will chart the weather on our calendars using one a symbol. It is important to draw an accurate symbol that represents the weather. You do not want to draw a sun if it is raining outside. Ask yourself, What kind of weather are we having today? What should I draw to show today’s weather?

Vocabulary Review Weather - The condition of the air at a given time Meteorologist - A scientist who studies the weather Monitor - To observe and record observations about something over time Symbol - A picture that represents the weather Sunny - When the weather is bright with few or no clouds Partly Cloudy - When it is sunny outside but there are lots of clouds in the sky Overcast - When the sky is gray and cloudy, but it is not raining or snowing Rainy - When the sky is cloudy and raining or drizzling Snowy - When the sky is cloudy and snow is falling
