Nationalism unifies a country and causes competition between nations. Europe’s great powers were: Germany Austria-Hungary Great Britain Russia Italy France Uneasy Peace

Imperialism Germany and France fought over control of Morocco In Northern Africa Imperialism

Militarism – The policy of glorifying military power and keeping an army prepared for war

Alliances Triple Alliance – Germany, Austria- Hungary, Italy When Russia’s treaty with Germany lapsed, Russia signed a treaty with France Alliances

A two-front war meant that Germany would be fighting on both its eastern and western borders Triple Entente: Britain, France & Russia Alliances

The Ottoman Empire was collapsing so many nations in the Balkans were fighting for their own rule. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand & his wife, Sophie caused major tension between Austria & Serbia. Austria & Russia took Europe to war Balkans
