- Is an internal process that makes a person move toward a goal. -it is a desire or energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject or to make an effort to attain a goal.

3 CHARACTERISTIC OF MOTIVATION First, motivation is concerned with what activates human behavior. Second, motivation is concerned with what directs this behavior toward a particular goal. Third, motivation is concerned with how this behavior is sustained.

THEORIES OF MOTIVATION

TRADITIONAL THEORY -Evolved from the work of FREDERICK W. TAYLOR TRADITIONAL THEORY -Evolved from the work of FREDERICK W. TAYLOR . -based on his belief that existing reward systems were not designed to reward individuals for high production.

THE HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

HOW CAN MANAGERS USE MASLOW’S THEORY

-according to research made the realities of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, there were questions about the accuracy of the hierarchical aspect of this 5 needs.

-research indicates that even the rank and file employee has need of self-esteem and self actualization, although what might represent status or pride of accomplishment of a person would not be all satisfying to another.
