4-1.5 Analyze the impact of characterization and conflict on plot Character vs. Nature 4-1.5 Analyze the impact of characterization and conflict on plot

What is conflict? Conflict is a problem that is found in most fictional stories Conflict creates plot There are three major types of conflict that we will be studying: character vs. character character vs. self character vs. nature

Character vs. Nature This type of conflict is caused by a natural source, not another character in the story. Real life examples: You plan on going to the beach for a day of fun in the sun! You wake up, check the weather, and find out that there is a 90% of rain. You are out on the lake for a little cruise in the boat. All of a sudden you get caught in a current and are swept downstream. You panic until the boat ends up on the lakeshore.

As I read Brave Irene, listen to see if you can find the answer to the following questions: 1. What is the conflict in the story? 2. How does Irene deal with nature

4-1.5 Analyze the impact of characterization and conflict on plot Character vs. Self 4-1.5 Analyze the impact of characterization and conflict on plot

Character vs. Self Sometimes characters have conflicts with themselves. This may involve making a difficult decision or choice. Real life examples: You have been asked by a friend to go to the movies on Saturday. Earlier in the week, your mom asked you to help her out by taking care of your baby sister while she did some work around the house. You know you should honor your mom’s request, but you really want to go with your friend…

Diana woke up in a terrible mood Diana woke up in a terrible mood. She not only got in trouble at home for being mean to her brother, but her teacher seems to be catching her each time she talks out. Instead of taking responsibility for her mood and actions, she takes it out on everyone around her.

As I read Alexander…, listen to see if you can find the answer to the following questions: 1. What is the conflict in the story? 2. How does Alexander deal with the conflicts and emotions?
