Text Coding/Annotation An important reading comprehension skill

Why text code anyway? Text coding is important for several reasons…. Way of “taking notes” Helps you engage with the text It’s simple & practical Helps you get through difficult texts Why text code anyway?

 (check mark): This signals something you already know. : This signals something that contradicts, or goes against something you believe to be true. ?: This signals something you have a questions about, or something that confuses you.  (star): Signals something you think is important or interesting.  (box): If a term appears again and again, chances are it’s important. Highlight information that seems important! BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIGHLIGHT TOO MUCH! Text Coding symbols
