What is BYOT? BYOT means Bring Your Own Technology. BYOT is for students in grades 3-5, currently. Types of technology you can bring: Laptop, tablet, iPod, or an internet connected Kindle You are allowed to use the devices for learning opportunities only.

Family Decision You and your family will decide if it is ok to bring in your device. If your parent or guardian says no, please respect their decision. You will still be allowed to use the devices available to you at school.

What should I do for BYOT? Bring a charged device. Have all school apps downloaded before you come to school. Keep your device in a safe place during the school day. Turn off any sound or ringtones to avoid disrupting the class. Make sure you have earbuds. Do not let others touch or use your device. Take your device home EVERY day. Remember, as much as we would like to help them set up their devices, download items, etc. Please do not touch a student’s device. If there is an issue, they need to take it home so their parents can help fix it.

Can I use my Device whenever I want? You can use your device whenever your teacher says it is ok. This will most likely be during Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and for projects. You may not use your device during recess or lunch.

Go through and discuss the points of this graphic Go through and discuss the points of this graphic. I have some copies for you to post in your room unless you have another way to let students know when they can use their devices.

What are some apps that you can download? LCPS Go Dreambox Internet Search Engine Reflex Math PowerTest There are many others they are welcome to download. These are just suggestions.

Time to see what you know... The Kahoot! graphic takes you to a quick 8 question Kahoot reviewing the BYOT expectations. Once students go to Kahoot!, they will type in the game code that will appear on your screen so they can join the game. (Students can share some devices or you can skip this slide if you don’t have devices available. You will need to have a login for Kahoot to view and use the game.)
