Test 1: Paper Chromatography

Directions: Use the following images to guide you through the steps of paper chromatography

Step 2 With a PENCIL, draw a straight, vertical line that is 2 cm from the BOTTOM of the chromatography paper.

Step 3 With a PENCIL, label the TOP part of the chromatography paper “Bc “ (Botana curus), X, Y and Z as shown in Figure 2.

Step 4 Using a CLEAN dropper, apply to 2 drops of the Botana curus plant extract just above the penciled line as shown in Figure 2.

Step 5 Repeat STEP 4, applying 2 drops of plant extract from the 3 species (X, Y and Z) in the appropriate locations on the chromatography paper.

Step 6 Add enough water to cover the bottom of the cup approximately 1 cm deep. See Figure 3 shown below.
