TEXTURE Texture

Tactile Can actually feel the variation in the surface

Visual Texture has been applied using line and color

Audible The sound a surface makes when rubbed.

Formal Interiors Shiny Refined Smooth

Informal Interiors Rough Heavily Textured

Textures affect us in many ways: Everything we touch evokes a physical response: hard/soft, smooth/rough, dull/shiny. Texture influences the amount of light an object reflects, thus affecting its color. Texture affects sound qualities. Texture affects the care and upkeep of an object. Texture is a source of beauty and character.

The Textures on walls affects the appearance of the room Heavily Textured Walls: Make a room appear smaller Little or no texture on walls: Make a room appear larger

Textures add visual interest to a room Smooth Textures: Make colors appear lighter and brighter and are generally more formal Shiny Textures: Have a more intense color Rough Textures: Make colors look darker and less intense and are generally more informal Muted Textures: Have a dull color

Activity On the “Texture Rub” sheet provided, Take a crayon and go out in the hall and do a texture rub on the three different surfaces. Each couch picture should have a different texture rub on it.
