Introduction Objectives Identify The Evaluation Steps of Evaluation Explain The Evaluation Method Identify The Barriers To Evaluation Explain The Barriers To Evaluation Summary Conclusion Article

Following this seminar the students will be able to : Define the evaluation within 1 min accurately . List the evaluation methods within 3 min . Explain some of the evaluation method within 10 min. . List the barriers to evaluation within 2 min. . Summarize the step for correct barriers to evaluation within 7 min,

Evaluation : Is the process that can justify that what we do as nurses makes value added difference in the care we provide. Assessment Vs Evaluation???

Steps of Evaluation Focus of evaluation. Designing evaluation. Conducting evaluation. Analyze and interpret data. Reporting and using result of data.

Evaluation Focus includes five basic components: Audience Purpose Questions Scope Resources

Evaluation Method: Actions that are undertaken to carry out the evaluation according to the design structure. All evaluation method deal in some way with data and data collection.

what types of data will be collected ? Essential questions to be asked when designing evaluation tool : what types of data will be collected ? by whom will data be collected ? From whom or what will data be collected ? How , when , and where will data be collected ?

what types of data will be collected ? People. educational program or activity. Environment .

By whom will data be collected ? ! teacher who is conducting the class or activity. patients themselves . nurses within the department or institution. someone outside the institution.

will data be collected ? Data can be collected from : Directly from Individuals. representatives of these individuals. documentation or databases. Include population or sample. For example: Data should be collected from all learners and all educators participating in the educational activity , In process evaluation.

data will be collected ? Methods for data collected : Observation . Questionnaire or written test . Interview . Patient record review .

Interview

Questionnaire

method is selected depends on : The type of data being collected . The available resources .

during and immediately after an educational activity . Consistent with type of evaluation.

Evaluation can be : Process evaluation : to make adjustments as soon as needed during education process. content evaluation : immediately after completion of education (short-term) . Outcome evaluation : after completion of education , when learners have returned to the setting where they are expected to use new knowledge or perform a new skills . Impact evaluation : from weeks to years after the educational program has been offered .

Roberta Straessle Abruzzese Evaluation Model (1992)

Barriers classified into three categories: lack of clarity. lack of ability. fear of punishment Or loss of self-esteem.

Lack of clarity Lack of clarity most often is result of an : Unclear. Unstated. Poorly defined evaluation focus. Not knowing the evaluation purpose of an evaluation or what will be done with evaluation result. Undertaking any action is difficult if the nurse does not know the purpose for the taking that action

How to correct ? These barriers easy to correct by provide the clarity and identify these components: Audience. Purpose. Questions. Resources.

Lack of ability Is the result of not knowing how to conduct the evaluation or not having the resources necessary to conduct the evaluation. *** The person or group who requested the evaluation be done must responsible for clarification the purpose , scope , questions, equipment, time, facilities.

How to barriers we should asking for and receiving help from those who are expert. lack of other resources should be documented , justified and presented to those requesting the evaluation.

the person conducting the evaluation must accept responsibility for knowing what resources are necessary ?? and for giving that information to person requesting the evolution.

Fear of punishment or loss of :self-esteem Evolution may be seen as a judgment of personal worth. those being evaluated (patient , family member of patient ,nurse in practice) my fear that any thing less than perfect performance will result in punishment

؟ How to barriers First step: realize that the potential for its existence many be close to 100% individuals whose skill or knowledge is being evaluated are not likely to admit that evaluation represents a threat to them.

Second step: remember “the person is more important than the performance or the product “. Third step : point out achievement , if they exist or continue to encourage effort if learning has not been achieved , give praise honestly ( self-esteem

Fourth step : use communication of information to prevent or minimize the fear .

The nurse observes patient behavior during instruction ,when giving feedback the patient show silent and uncomfort facial expression . What type of data will be collected ? What method for data collected ? What type of evaluation? What is the barrier of evaluation and how to correct ?`

conclusion Finally, to get a good evaluation you need to know all component of evaluation and deal with communication skills
