Adaptation Strategies

Analogous Structures Where species that are not closely related develop similar traits because those traits help them survive in an environment Homologous structures: structures that are shared by species with a close evolutionary relative (common ancestor) Both are evidence of evolution – how?

Adaptive Radiation When organisms rapidly evolve in to multiple different forms in order to match different environments or food sources. i.e. Darwin’s Finches

Cryptic Coloration Coloring that helps an animal camouflage itself in a specific environment. Can either help an animal blend in, or break up the outline of its body (zebras or tigers)

Mimicry Imitating something to intimidate or confuse predators

Aposematic Coloration Warning colors to notify predators of poison.
