Shooting in manual mode Photography 1 Term 3

The exposure triangle is made up out of ……… Let’s Refresh! To shoot in manual mode you need to know and understand how the EXPOSURE TRIANGLE works. The exposure triangle is made up out of ………

Aperture (measured in F-stop)

Depth of Field is cacused by f-stop Depth of Field: the area in a scene that is in focus Low depth of field = More light (blurred background) High depth of field = Less light (full focus)

Low Depth of Field

HIGh depth of field

2. Shutter Speed Lower shutter speed (1 second) = longer the shutter stays open = more light hits the sensor Higher shutter speed (1/1000) = faster shutter will shut = less light hits the sensor

3. ISO (I-S-O) I-S-O is how sensitive your camera is to light. The side effect is grain. The higher your ISO, the more grainy your image. For outdoors or times when you have more light use 100 or 200 ISO. For indoor or times when you don’t have a lot of light to work with use 800 ISO or higher.

Decide what Depth of Field you want Adjust your shutter speed To shoot in manual Set your ISO Decide what Depth of Field you want Adjust your shutter speed Toggle your light meter to be at zero (shutter may be adjusted when you toggle)

Toggle your light meter - 2…1…0…1…2 + Underexposed Overexposed

FOCUS On your lens you should set it to MF (Manual focus). Use the zoom ring to zoom in or out. Use the focus ring (outer part of the lens to focus on subject).
