Trial chapters warm-up questions

Reflect on yesterday’s reading… What is the purpose of Atticus asking Bob Ewell to sign his name? What evidence does it suggest? Re-read the last two paragraphs on page 170 that carry over onto page 171. Why does the author include the detail about the red geraniums? If it’s true that Mayella tends to the flowers, what does that suggest about her?

IN 3-2-1…. Write down 3 revealing details that prove Mayella lives a sad life… Write down 2 behavioral observations you made about Mayella while on the stand… Write down 1 possible explanation for the “real story” of Mayella Ewell and Tom Robinson…

Reviewing Tom’s Testimony What is the difference between Atticus and Mr. Gilmer’s treatment of Tom Robinson? Why was everyone furious by Tom saying that he “felt sorry” for Mayella Ewell? How does Dill’s reaction to Tom’s testimony reflect the theme of mockingbirds/innocence?
