Homework Thursday, May 23, 2019 Science Final May 22 Objective: YWBAT analyze how the motions and complex interactions of air masses results in changes in weather conditions. Drill: Why do hurricanes form only over certain areas? Homework Science Final May 22

Answer Hurricanes form only over warm, tropical oceans because a hurricane requires the energy and moisture from water to fuel it.

Did you know…? People have reported seeing “naked” chickens after tornadoes strike rural areas. A likely explanation is that tornadoes cause chickens to shed their feathers, or molt. As the chickens molt, the strong tornado winds blows the feathers off.

Today’s Activities Drill Read Understanding Weather; Section 3 DRW Understanding Weather; Section 3 Conclusion

What happens to a hurricane as it moves over land? Why? Closure What happens to a hurricane as it moves over land? Why?

Conclusion Answer A hurricane dissipates as it moves over land because it loses its energy source.
