Cause and Effect Paragraphs

Cause and Effect We often call them cause AND effect paragraphs, but they’re more like cause OR effect paragraphs. They teach the reader about 3 causes or 3 effects of something important

Cause and Effect However, when you talk about effects, you start with one cause. When you talk about causes, you are focusing on one effect.

Cause and Effect Paragraphs We normally use cause and effect paragraphs for a few reasons: To explain the good or bad effects of something so people can avoid or start something Exercising has three positive effects. A -> B1 A -> B2 A -> B3

Cause and Effect Paragraphs We normally use cause and effect paragraphs for a few reasons: To explain the causes of a problem (or sometimes, something good), so we can understand how to prevent it Three causes of cheating are poor planning, bad communication with the teacher, and confusion. A1 ->B A2 -> B A3 -> B

Cause and Effect Paragraphs We normally use cause and effect paragraphs for a few reasons: VERY UNCOMMON: To show how one event causes another, which causes another, which causes another. (This is more like a PROCESS paragraph). If a student is lazy, they may procrastinate. This may cause them to be late with their assignments. If they’re late, they’ll cheat.

Cause and Effect Paragraphs A>B>C>D (Please DON’T do this type!)
