Parents Presentation Evening Welcome to Class 4 Parents Presentation Evening

Tonight’s presentation will include: Details about targets and how you can help your children achieve them. Curriculum details – what your child will be learning. Homework information. General class information. Any questions you might have.

All of the children have targets in: Literacy – writing Literacy – reading Numeracy

Literacy target - writing MUST I can vary my sentences by dropping in a clause. I can use a comma when I add detail to a sentence. SHOULD I can use a range of sentence starters to create complex sentences. I can use a comma after starting a sentence with an ‘ed’, ‘ing’ or ‘ly’ word. COULD I can use a range of different sentence types in my writing including simple and complex sentences. I can combine three ideas and demarcate the first two with commas. Sentence structure - punctuation

Literacy Target – writing MUST I can use adverbs and adjectives when writing sentences. SHOULD I can use a range of adverbial and adjectival phrases in sentences. COULD I can move adverbial phrases around in a sentence to vary the effect on the reader. Sentence structure

Literacy Target - reading MUST I can explain what a character is feeling because of what they say and do. SHOULD I can work out what a character is feeling by looking for clues in action, speech and description. COULD I can deduce reasons for a characters behaviour from action, speech and description. Reading – Inference and Deduction

Numeracy Target MUST SHOULD COULD I CAN READ NUMBERS TO AT LEAST 100 I CAN WRITE NUMBERS TO AT LEAST 1000 (IN FIGURES THEN WORDS) I CAN ORDER THESE NUMBERS ON A NUMBER / WASHING LINE. SHOULD I CAN READ AND WRITE NUMBERS UP TO 1 DECIMAL PLACE IN FIGURES AND KNOW WHAT EACH NUMBER MEANS. I CAN ORDER THESE NUMERS ON A NUMBER/WASHING LINE. COULD I CAN READ AND WRITE A NUMBER UP TO 2 DECIMAL PLACES IN FIGURES AND WORDS AND KNOW WHAT EACH DIGIT REPRESENTS. I CAN ORDER THESE NUMBERS ON A NUMBER LINE OR SCALE.

We will follow the Year 4 curriculum. Learning Literacy We will follow the Year 4 curriculum.

Narrative Stories from other cultures. Stories with historical settings. Stories set in imaginary worlds. Stories which raise issues and dilemmas. Plays

Non-fiction Recounts from newspapers and magazines. Information texts. Explanation texts. Persuasive texts.

Poetry Creating images. Exploring form.

Once a week we will have a mental maths carousel. Numeracy We will follow the Year 4 plan but will differentiate using the Year 3 and Year 5 plans where appropriate. Once a week we will have a mental maths carousel.

Themed studies We will teach subjects such as Geography, History and Art as part of Themed Studies. These subjects will be linked as part of our creative curriculum.

What else?? Guided reading at least once a week. Phonics or key skills Tuesday to Friday. Spellings. Handwriting. RE and PSHE. 2 hours of PE per week.

Homework – weekly. Given out every Friday. Handed in by the following Wednesday. Learning log work – linked to literacy, themed studies or both. Numeracy – in Numeracy homework book. Spellings – to be tested the following Friday.

Homework - daily Practice spellings. Read reading book to another person or themselves and fill out their diary. Practice times tables.

Class 4 PE is on Tuesday and Wednesday. K2M violin project is on Friday. Mrs Thornhill supports our learning in Class 4. If there is a problem or question please call into the office to speak to Mr Bradbury or arrange an appointment. Please make sure your child fills out their reading diary and comes to school every day with their reading book and reading diary. Homework, spellings and other relevant information will shortly be online.
