Rounding and Place Value Mrs. Berkhin 9/13/2018
Place Value
rOUNDING Replacing a numerical value with another value that is approximately equal but has a shorter, simpler or more explicit representation. When we decide which place value we want to round, we look at the next smallest place value… If it is 5 or greater, we round our original place value up. If it is 4 or less, we keep our original place value as it is. We then replace all of the smaller place values with zeros.
A few Examples Round 467 to the nearest ten. Round 34.5 to the nearest one. Round 4.82 to the nearest tenth. Round 345,329 to the nearest hundred thousand. Round 254,678.768 to the nearest hundredth.
