The Endocrine System

Hormonal Response Hypothalamus (brain) stimulates Pituitary gland Regulates: Thyroid- metabolism Adrenal glands- hydration Pancreas- blood glucose (sugar) Parathyroid- calcium & phosphorus balance Gonads- development of sex cells & puberty

endocrine system model

Male Reproductive System

Structure Testosterone- male sex hormone produced in testes (male gonads) Phys change, dev. muscles, body hair, deeper voice, & produce sperm

Function Produce sperm Transfer sperm to female

External Reproductive Organs Testes- 2 small glands that store testosterone & produce sperm Scrotum- skin surrounding testes that regulates temperature for developing sperm Penis- spongy tissue & blood vessels

Internal Organs Epididymis- large coiled tube, joins testes (temp. storage of mature sperm) Vas Deferens- connecting tubes into males body (propel sperm forward during ejaculation) Seminal Vessicle- combine fluid to sperm for mobility & nutrients (semen)

Internal Organs Ejaculatory duct- sem. Ves. & vas. Def meet at the top of urethra (“swinging door”) Prostate gland- small gland surrounds urethra (adds fluid to semen) Cowper’s gland- secrete neutralizing acid before ejaculation (camouflage sperm) Urethra- passage way for sperm & urine See Pg 470
