Bain Buzz #6 abain@stclair.k12.il.us 618.476.7100 ext: 1561 Hello! Friday, September 25h, 2009 abain@stclair.k12.il.us 618.476.7100 ext: 1561 Hello! What a quick week! It seems to be flying by day by day. We kicked off the week on Monday making Mexican maracas and the Mexican flag for the “Books Around the World” book fair. Then, we switched our focus to “All About Me” in the classroom. As you know, we were scheduled to do community, but the kindergarten team decided to delay it another week. The “All About Me” unit was lots of fun! When walking down the halls now, we pass life-size versions of ourselves that we traced and colored! We have made some very special books that I am going to keep until the end of the year to see how much we have changed or stayed the same in these 10 months. We made creative self-portraits and counted our fingers with stickers, too. Next week, we will be focusing on the community (for sure!). Again, if you are a community worker and are interested in coming in to talk to us about your duties, we would love to have you! Please contact me and we will set up a time. In the Classroom Ask your child to show you the “Month Macarena” or sing you both days of the week song! Also, if you have the alphabet somewhere at your house, ask your child to sing it to you forwards and backwards! Practicing writing and identifying numbers, letters, and letter sounds at home will help tremendously with school work. The worksheets you see coming home with letters “L,” “O” and “G” are part of our phonics curriculum. We work on phonics daily, and these worksheets help students visualize letters and words as parts of a whole. You will continue seeing these some home as we master phonics skills one by one. Specials Tuesdays – Library (bring library books!) Don’t forget to bring library books on Tuesday, we’ve been doing a great job! Pictures I think pictures turned out really nicely! Retakes are October 7th if you’re interested. Important Dates **I would like to apologize for having the day of Community Day incorrect in the last Buzz. It was Sunday. I’m sorry! Thursday October 1st is YELLOW day for our 2nd pillar of Character. Please send your child to school wearing YELLOW on that day to support being RESPECTFUL. Friday October 2nd is the Fall Festival from 5-8 pm at MCS. There will be lots of booths set up with fun fall activities! Pie-Throwing, bake sales, and make-and-take stands will create a family friendly night for all! If you have volunteered to bring something for the bake sale, I will contact you later in the week with more information. Friend of the Week This week’s Friend of the Week will be Tayha Schneider. Tayha is a very sweet girl who cares about her classmates, her school work, and herself. She always has a smile on her face and is willing and eager to lend a helping hand to someone in need. Awesome job, Tayha! Remember, when it is your child’s turn to be Friend of the week, I ask that you bring pictures, favorite things (we have had stuffed animals and favorite candy), some favorite books to read throughout the week, and the yellow “About Me” paper (which I have most of, but if you haven’t turned it in, please do so soon!). Website My website is now linked to the MPC website. www.msbain.weebly.com ***Attached to this Buzz is the October parent volunteer calendar. If you are not on the parent volunteer calendar and are able to come in during some of the vacant times, please circle the time and send your calendar back to me. As a parent volunteer, you will be helping me with Center Time. Center Time involves 4-5 students in one of 5 centers working simultaneously on different activities. A helping hand would be wonderful! 

L O Color the L your favorite color. Students please remember to ask your parents to get their scrip orders turned in by October 2nd for the Fall Kick Off Promotion.  Each student from the class with the most orders will win a free Soft Serve ice cream cone at Happy Days!  Thanks to all those students who have already turned in their orders and are supporting the PTA!  The Winning class from both MCS and MPC will be announced on October 5th.  Color the L your favorite color. Fill in the O with lower case o’s. I’ve done two for you. L O
