Presentation transcript:

What is the inquiry model? This will be our guide throughout the course. By the end of the semester you must demonstrate that you have all of these skills. We will start with the Exploration segment of this pie…….how do we start to research?

Yesterday you were asked to think about things you are interested in learning more about……. What are those things?

Other aspects of human behaviour you might wonder about: Human behaviour while riding on a city bus The way certain groups of people stake out territory The way some people get into fights a lot Teenage behaviour in the first year of driving a car Etc etc etc

Where do we begin? Using either your own topic, or one of the other topics discussed in class, record the following: Write the topic in the form of a question. Example: Why don’t people talk to strangers very much while riding on a city bus?

What kinds of things would you need to know to answer this question? - How often DO people talk to strangers on a bus? - Does it matter how many people are on the bus? - Does it matter what the age of the person is? - Are the people on the bus usually social/talkative? - Are there certain types of people they will talk to? Etc.

How might you go about finding those things out? - Sit on a bus and observe behaviour. - Interview people who are on a bus. - Interview people when they are not on a bus. - Talk to a bus driver - Do some research to find out if anyone else has studied this topic. Now, complete the Inquiry Planning Sheet with YOUR question in mind…..

Talk it around…………. In groups, discuss your general topic, inquiry question, what you need to know to answer the question, where you would find that information, and what you might need to know first. Add other’s ideas to your own, to expand plan. As a Group: Decide which Inquiry Question would be the easiest to answer. Share with the class.
