Skills Identify Type of ion atoms form from periodic table, including “W” of fixed charges Compare atoms wrt atomic size/radii, ionic size/radii, ionization energy, or electronegativity to identify which is higher and be able to justify based on atomic structures. Know names and formulas of 34 polyatomic ions Draw lewis structures for atoms, ions and ionic compounds. Identify a chemical bond as nonpolar, polar or ionic Describe the 6 types of intermolecular forces and the requirements for each.

Skills Identify the dominant intermolecular force for a compound. Compare the IMFs for two compounds to determine the stronger or weaker IMF. Identify a substance with a higher or lower physical property base on relative IMF. Identify a substance as acidic, covalent or ionic based on its formula. Use the 7 nomenclature rules to convert between names and formulas. 3 ionic rules, one covalent rule, 3 acid rules Know the 4 accepted exceptions to the 7 nomenclature rules.
