Macbeth Final Exam Review Presentation by Kevin Massaro

Overview Title- ”Macbeth” Genre- Play Author- William Shakespeare Setting- Scotland 1040 Plot- Three witches give Macbeth a prophecy that he will one day be King of Scotland. Lady Macbeth can’t wait for King Duncan to die so she convinces Macbeth to kill the King of Scotland so he will become the king faster.

Characters Banquo- A Scottish general who was murdered by men sent by his friend Macbeth. Later appears as a ghost. Doctor- The doctor who looks after Lady Macbeth when she is sleepwalking. Donalbain- The youngest of the king’s sons. He fled to Ireland. Fleance- Banquo’s son who escapes Macbeth’s men who tried to kill him. Hecate- The queen of the witches.

Characters King Duncan- The King of Scotland before Macbeth kills him. Lady Macbeth- Macbeth’s wife who convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan and then she is plagued with sleepwalking because of her guilt. Lady Macduff- Macduff’s wife who was murdered by men sent by Macbeth. Lennox- A nobleman of scotland. Macbeth- Kills King Duncan to become the king of Scotland and is eventually killed by Macduff.

Characters Macdonald- The leader of the rebelion who was killed by Macbeth. Macduff- Helped Malcolm fight Macbeth’s army and he killed Macbeth himself. Malcolm- The oldest son of King Duncan. He fled to England so he could raise an army to fight Macbeth. He is the new king of Scotland. Porter- The doorkeeper at Macbeth’s castle. Ross- A nobleman of Scotland.

Characters Siward- The Earl of Northumberland. He is also the general of the English army. Witches- They give Macbeth three prophecies and later three visions. Young Siward- Siward’s son. He fights Macbeth and is killed.

Important Places in the story Setting The setting of “Macbeth” is Scotland the year is 1040. This is important to know because it explains why the characters act the way they do. Important Places in the story Birnam Wood- The woods were Malcolm’s army hides and then they cut down the branches to use as camouflage. Cawdor- Macbeth is made the Thane of Cawdor after the old Thane of Cawdor is killed for treason.

Setting Dunsinane- The castle were Macbeth lives after he is crowned king. The final battle were Macbeth is killed. England- The country that Malcolm flees to. Also the country that provides troops to help Malcolm. Fife- Were the battle between Scotland and Norway took place. Glamis- Macbeth was the Thane of Glamis in the beginning of the story.

Setting Inverness- The original place were Macbeth’s castle was located. King Duncan was murdered here. Norway- The county that invades Scotland in the beginning of the story and is defeated by Macbeth. Scotland- The Country that the story takes place in and were Macbeth becomes king after killing King Duncan.

Conflicts and Resolutions Man vs. Self Macbeth vs. Guilt Macbeth has to deal with the guilt he has for killing King Duncan and Banquo Resolution: Macbeth is eventually killed

Conflicts and Resolutions Man vs. Man Macbeth vs. Macduff Macbeth had Macduff’s family killed so Macbeth and Macduff fight at the end of the story. Resolution: Macbeth is killed by Macduff
