Functions and Adaptations By: Janie Thomson, Ashley Groth, and Katie Kendall

Getting Food Carnivores have sharp claws and teeth to tear flesh Animals jump and pounce on their defenseless prey Camouflage to hide from prey Venus Fly Traps have sweet nectar inside their plant so when flies come to try to eat the nectar, the Venus Fly Trap catches it and eats it

Reproducing Seeds from plants attach to animals’ fur and eventually fall off Animals reproduce as quickly as possible to prevent dying without reproducing Plants do different things to spread out their seeds so they don’t have to compete for sunlight Animals have different ways to show off to impress and attract mates

Withstanding Weather Bears hibernate to avoid the frigid weather Penguins huddle together to stay warm Plants grow thicker roots to stay sturdy in the wind Plants go dormant in the winter to avoid perishing in the cold Birds fly south for the winter when it gets too cold

Protecting From Predators Cacti have thorns to protect their internal water and stems Animals growl and snarl to scare off predators Peacocks spread their feathers to make them seem bigger than their true size Some plants have a certain color that predators recognize as poisonous Birds fly away to escape predators

Conclusion If your wondering what all of this has to do with plants and animals’ livelihood, you wouldn’t be the first. Ask yourself this, Why are adaptations necessary for survival? Think about this entire report and reflect. Thank you for your generous time learning about the importance of animals and plants’ well being and survival.
