TRF/Tutorial Expectations AVID 10 January 12th 2017

Daily Writing & Reading from dosomething.org Please respond to the prompt below. Once you have finished, please read your silent reading material. “Dropout rates of 16 to 24-years-old students who come from low income families are seven times more likely to drop out than those from families with higher incomes.” Write level 2 and level 3 questions about this statistic. Create thoughtful and insightful questions.

TRF Pre-Work Grading/Expectations Revisited Initial/Original Question Must include the “source, page #, and problem #” This is a question that comes from your notes, homework, quizzes/tests that you are struggling with. Write this question word for word from your source. 1 point Key Academic Vocabulary Vocabulary that is relevant and appropriate to the topic. The definition should be clear and thorough. 2 points

TRF Pre-Work Grading/Expectations Revisited What I Know Do not repeat information from your key vocabulary! There should be a variety of what you know. In other words, it shouldn’t only be information that was given in the initial question. You should pull from your notes, previous knowledge, etc. 2 points Critical Thinking This is the actual work you are doing to understand the problem. You can show your mathematical work, create a t-chart to compare and contrast using information from your notes, create a venn diagram, provide a variety of examples, etc. Need to show where your POC is occurring 3 points

TRF Pre-Work Grading/Expectations Revisited Identify General Process and Steps These are the generalized steps that describe what you are doing in the critical thinking section. These are steps that anyone can follow and is almost like a solutions manual. 2 points Question from Point of Confusion This question needs to be a Level 2 or Level 3 question. If you figure out your POC while you were completing it. Please indicate that you solved it, and then create a Level 3 question extending the topic. Do NOT repeat the Initial Question. This needs to be more specific.

TRF Reflection Grading/Expectations My Point of Confusion Restate your point of confusion. 1 point What I learned Describe specifically the content related concept that you learned Your “aha!” moment. I gained a new/greater understanding What triggered your “aha!” moment. Be specific. 2 points

TRF Reflection Grading/Expectations Connects to Previous Learning Be content specific with the connect. Does it relate to another section, idea, or concept? 2 points What I found meaningful This needs to be content specific. It could also relate to a specific WICOR strategy. 1 point
