As a whole group, we will be reading I Survived the Great Chicago Fire as another means of connecting to IL history. As we read, we will be conducting a “novel study” in order to make sure we are comprehending the story and identifying key vocabulary along the way. Writing: The students are off to a great start with opinion writing. We are so excited to start reading I Survived the Great Chicago Fire and then applying knowledge about the fire to an opinion prompt we will be working on for the next couple of weeks. Math: Just as we learned a variety of methods for multi-digit addition, this week we will be doing the same for subtraction. Students will be looking at how to subtract across zeros, as well as relating addition and subtraction.
