Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Donor/Acceptor Molecules Based on Propellanes: A Probe of Nonclassical Conjugation Frankie Ann McCormick, Department of Chemistry, Northern Michigan University Study provides the first experimental evidence for charge transfer between donor and acceptor groups linked by 1,3-diethynylpropellanes. UV absorption and fluorescence spectra indicate significant interaction through the propellane spacer—the molecules exhibit substantial charge transfer as seen from the bathochromic shift of the emission with increasing solvent polarity.
