3-4 PHILOSOPHY Unique Scheme – can cause offensive confusion Find and Recruit Less Defensive Linemen Ability to put best players on the field (LBs) Multiple/Disguise – slant to/ stem to/ movements to different fronts Nose guard increases pressure on center O-Line must face a D-Line that will 2-gap, shade, slant, or run games Creates pass rush mismatches (olbs on backs, guards, tackles) Offense has to account for 7 potential immediate rushers (five of them on the L.O.S.) Zone Pressure Package easier because LBs can replace pass zones rather than defensive linemen System- Can change the scheme and players are not phased by it Balanced – Can mirror offensive formations Unique Scheme – can cause offensive confusion Find and Recruit Less Defensive Linemen Ability to put best players on the field (LBs) Multiple/Disguise – slant to/ stem to/ movements to different fronts Nose guard increases pressure on center O-Line must face a D-Line that will 2-gap, shade, slant, or run games Creates pass rush mismatches (olbs on backs, guards, tackles) Offense has to account for 7 potential immediate rushers (five of them on the L.O.S.)
