What to Expect This Week: Study subtraction Facts Second Grade News Reminders: Students need Santa hats-please continue to bring them in Holiday party: December 21st at 11:00-sign up to bring food/drinks via sign-up. genius We would like students to dress to impress for our holiday festivities. If you have signed up to bring pizza, please order in advance so that that Papa Johns can have the pizza ready by 10:30-this would be a special request because they typically don’t open until later. Secret Santa gifts are past due… I would love for every child to have a gift. Please let me know if your child will be playing an instrument for us during our holiday extravaganza December 21- January 8th holiday break January 9th: Students return to school What to Expect This Week: Suffix/base word review/with spelling changes Irregular verbs Currents events: using the newspaper and online kid friendly resources to pull facts- the 5Ws Letter skills (5 parts) and how to address an envelope Writing summaries that include the beginning, middle, and end of important story events Review of nonfiction text features and elements of fiction GA regions webquest/brochure project Review of all parts of speech Commas: in a letter, in a series, within dates, and between city/state Review of all addition strategies learned-4 total-new “cheat sheet” in agenda Introduction of subtraction strategies will begin after the break! Mixed review of word problems Smarty Ants and Odysseyware-get on these awesome sites all the time! Don’t forget to check out Google Classroom; just log in with any computer or device and enter in your Google log-in credentials. Study subtraction Facts Additional reminders: Extra practice work coming home for students scoring below expectations on subtraction facts for this time of year. Parent signature required for each nightly activity. REDO folders are coming home with REDOS and subtraction facts, extra practice work-All work due Wednesday. AR tests scheduled for Wednesday. Chapter books coming home for the break-I encourage students to read and test upon return. Odysseyware, all subjects, and SmartyAnts will be available over the break-the expectation for students for this time of year is level 80 or higher in SmartyAnts. Parents, please visit Google Classroom subject folders for “cheat sheets” on all skills learned to date in all subject. The rigor of expectations as well as pace will increase after the break, as all new skills will be introduced.
