What do we know about poetry?

A literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature. Poetry is a type of literature, or artistic writing, that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions.  What is poetry?

Poetry can be written to tell stories and to entertain people It can also be written to express feelings, or to promote an idea They can also be used to make us laugh Or to advertise programs or products Why write poetry?

Each type of poetry is characterised by its own style They are characterised by the number of lines in the poem, the words in the poem, whether it rhymes or not, and what it is about.
