Classroom connections Mrs. Youngblood & Ms. Gaskill Week of: August 7, 2017 Weekly Focus Important Information PTO: Please consider joining the Hill City PTO. PTO is a group of parents, teachers, and other concerned adults who join together to support the school. The PTO plays an integral role in the success of the school. They sponsor programs for students such as Valentine Dance, Movie Night, Fall Festival, PTO School wide cook out, Plays, The Reading Program and much more. To find out more information, please visit the Hill City Elementary PTO facebook page. Class Dojo: This year fourth grade will be using a web-based program called Class Dojo to help track students’ behavior. It is an excellent communication tool to help keep parents updated about their child’s behavior. To find out more about this tool, please see the attached parent letter and access codes. Reading: We have begun to read a fantastic novel in class called Alabama Moon.  The students absolutely love it!  We will focus on some grammar skills next week including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and capitalization. Math: We will begin learning about place value including numbers up to the hundred millions place. Science: We will begin learning about the water cycle. Ask your child to sing the water cycle song to you. Social Studies: We will begin our Geography unit looking at United States rivers and mountain ranges. We will also be learning about different geographical locations in the United States. Classroom connections Important Dates August 21, 2017: No School due to the solar eclipse. August 31, 2017: Progress reports will be sent home. We can be contacted by email at chelliyoungblood@pickenscountyschools.org or by shawnagaskill@pickenscountyschools.org. We also have our planning time daily from 12:00-12:45. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you ever have any questions or concerns. We will be sending home a hard copy of our classroom newsletters for the first couple of weeks. From there, we will only be sending home hard copies to the students who request a copy be sent home. Everyone will need to access their teacher’s website to obtain a digital copy of the newsletter.
