The Last Supper

4 So Jesus got up from supper, laid aside His robe, took a towel, and tied it around Himself. 5 Next, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel tied around Him. John 13:4-5

12 “Do you know what I have done for you?  13 You call Me Teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am.  14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.  15 For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.” John 13:12-15

Serving is what we do and who we are. The cross: a symbol of our salvation. The towel: a symbol of our calling to serve others. Serving is what we do and who we are. We serve, no matter how humbling or inconvenient or insignificant it may seem.

Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. John 13:1

19 And Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 In the same way He also took the cup after supper and said, “This cup is the new covenant established by My blood; it is shed for you.” Luke 22:19-20

Holding a towel, we serve people. Holding the bread and cup, we surrender to Christ.

...without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Hebrews 9:22 We have redemption in Jesus through His blood…. Ephesians 1:7 ...the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

On that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, to wash away sin and impurity. Zechariah 13:1

There is a Fountain There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel's veins; and sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.
