The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Short Film Project Theater Juliette Abbott

The Plan…. You and a small group will create a modern short film adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Begin by: Writing Your Script Deciding on where you are going to shoot each scene

How to Write Script Format You are writing dialogue, this is not a short story. JANE: (Whispers) Hey, John, can I have the answer to number 4? JOHN: (Pushes his paper away from Jane and blocks it so she can’t see) Don’t talk to me, we are in the middle of the test! JANE: I don’t remember number 4! JOHN: You’re going to get me in trouble!

How to Write Stage Directions Stage Directions are centered and in parenthesis. No * JANE: (Whispers) Hey, John, can I have the answer to number 4? JOHN: (Pushes his paper away from Jane and blocks it so she can’t see) Don’t talk to me, we are in the middle of the test! JANE: I don’t remember number 4! JOHN: You’re going to get me in trouble!

At the top of each scene write where you want to film it. Filming Location At the top of each scene write where you want to film it. Filming Location: Classroom JANE: (Whispers) Hey, John, can I have the answer to number 4? JOHN: (Pushes his paper away from Jane and blocks it so she can’t see) Don’t talk to me, we are in the middle of the test! JANE: I don’t remember number 4! JOHN: You’re going to get me in trouble!

Rules for Filming Wear the pass at all times Be respectful of those in your location Use all the time to film Be back to class 5 minutes before the end of the class period Hand your filming pass back in at the end of each class period Failure to follow these rules will result in you no longer being able to use class time to film.

Rubric Your mini-movie must be a retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow You must be memorized* Your mini-play must be 4-6 minutes long (1 minute per person in your group) Everyone but the person filming and editing must act for at least 75% of the film Your performances must be performed with the Standard Performance Techniques You must include a title, music, sound or other effects and credits in your movie You must film at least 50% of your movie outside of class. Apps to use: See Handout After you edit your movie, upload it to YouTube or Google Drive; then email me the link at jdelabb@oakparkschools.org
