THE 2015 IDITAROD RACE BY Chase J.

Introduction The Iditarod dog sled race is about a disease called diphtheria. And it started because people and kids were very sick.

Musher My musher is Hugh Neff. His bib number is 24 He is 47 years old. He was born in Tennessee. His home town is Tok, Alaska.

Dogs The dogs wear little booties on there paws. They wear collars to carry the med. They used Huskies to race. There are about 16 dogs on each team.

Routes and Checkpoints The routes are different because there was not enough snow. The race starts at anchorage. The race ends at Nome. The race is about 1,049 miles long The race has 19 checkpoints.

Awards The GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award-Presented to the first musher to reach the halfway checkpoint which this year was Iditarod. Wells Fargo Bank Alaska Gold Coast Award-Presented to the first musher to reach the “Gold Coast’’ community of Unalakleet. Red Lantern Award- presented to the last racer to finish he Iditarod race.
