The Armed Forces Service Values Slide 1 The Service Values -Introduce the lesson. Introduction Your attitudes about the worth of people, concepts, and other things describe your values. Everything begins there. Military personnel civilians enter America’s Armed Forces with their own set of values, developed in childhood and nurtured through experience. All people are shaped by what they have seen, what they have learned, and whom they have met. When military personnel and DoD civilians take the oath, they enter an institution guided by the Service Values. These values are more than a system of rules. They consist of principles, standards, and qualities considered essential for successful Armed Forces leaders, and DoD civilians .These values tell us what we need to be, every day, in every action we take. The Service Values apply to everyone and in every situation, at home, at work, in peace and in war, throughout America’s Armed Forces.

Ask the audience to list some of their individual and family values and explain why they are important to them and their families. People usually gain a better understanding about the importance of values when they consider their own values and the roles their values play in their lives and the lives of their families. Understanding the importance of their individual and family values will assist with the acceptance and internalization of the Army Values and the importance of the Army Values to the Army.
