What is diffusion? The act of dispersing or diffusing something, ideas, fashions, even people; the spread of social institutions (and myths and skills) from one society to another.

Mcdonalds in 37 countries https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ORiKlpasOw

In the Mcdonald’s video, what idea/item was spreading? Stimulus Diffusion The spread of an underlying principle, even though a specific characteristic is rejected Can you think of another example to add to your tree chart?

The Devil Wears Prada https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj8mHwvFxMc

What was diffusing in this video? How did it diffuse? Hierarchical Diffusion The spread of a feature or trend from one key person or node of authority or power to other persons or places.

History of facebook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqcogBeAsuw

How did facebook spread? Contagious Diffusion A form of expansion diffusion in which nearly all adjacent individuals and places are affected. Can an argument for another type of diffusion be made for Facebook?

What do you think relocation diffusion means? The actual movement of individuals who have already adopted an idea or innovation and who carry it to a new perhaps distant location where they proceed to spread it; often through migration

What type(s) of diffusion are evident in the following video What type(s) of diffusion are evident in the following video? Specify how that type of diffusion is being demonstrated. http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/bhutan/

Gummy Bears and Diffusion! In order to get to know your literature circles better, you are going to work with your teams and use gummy bears to demonstrate each of the types of diffusions. BE CREATIVE! After each TWO MINUTE prep period, you will share you gummy creation with the class and explain how it demonstrates that specific type of diffusion. 1. Hierarchical 2. Stimulus 3. Relocation 4. Contagious

And Finally… Work with your teams to properly categories the diffusion examples you have been provided with. Happy sorting!!!
