Writing Focus: Friendly Letters Transparency LA34: Friendly Letter Friendly Letter *The heading gives the date. The greeting tells who gets the letter. The body is the message. The closing says good-bye. The signature is the writer’s name.

Step by Step Writing Say today’s date for the heading. Say dear and the person’s name for the greeting. Then add a comma. What is the first sentence of our message? What else do I think my friend would want to know? Write a closing to end the letter. Our signatures belong under to closing. Let’s read our friendly letter together.
