Every 3 year rolling module on Children Material deprivation (13 variables which were collected in 2014 module) Basic needs (clothes, shoes, food) Educational or leisure needs (books, leisure equipment, leisure activity, celebrations, school trips, place to study, holiday) Health (6 variables which were collected in 2017 module) Health (general, limitations, unmet needs)

Living arrangements and conditions of children within separated or recomposed families - DG EMPL policy need time or attention deprivation; co-parenting Interested in information on: type of family joint custody or co-parenting care of children not present in household time devoted to children financial obligations and contributions additional support

Type of family - DG EMPL Typical nuclear family: two parents with own/adopted children in household Reconstituted family: 2 partners, at least one partner with own children in household, the other partner with/ without children in household, they may have also children together One parent with children in household One or more persons without children in household, but at least one has children outside household One or more persons without any children – no outside care responsibilities

Care for children - DG EMPL Care for children in household shared with a parent not present in household – either joint CUSTODY or CO-PARENTING – are some/ all children in joint legal custody? Care for children not currently present in household – either joint CUSTODY or CO-PARENTING – taking care of any children outside household, by any of the adults? How much time is devoted if children are in joint custody for some/ all children?

Financial obligations and other support - DG EMPL Financial obligations and contributions received from parents not present in household in support of some/ all children if not in custody? Is there additional support, regular share of responsibilities by other relatives? Are there financial obligations towards some/ all children not in the surveyed household, even in the case when there is no joint custody?

Distribution of children by the presence of parents across MS Between 70% and 93% live with both parents (it does not include information about children outside households) Proposed dedicating part of the module to children in separated or recomposed families and half in general to measuring time/attention deprivation of all children.

Sub-TF dedicated to development of this policy module 3-4.12.2018 in Luxembourg Aims at selecting variables which would be pre-tested (focus groups and cognitive interviews) After pre-testing WG will decide on final list of variables
