Unit 2: True Stories of Courage A look at Film

Learning Goals To demonstrate an understanding of the theme of courage To evaluate the characters courageous persona based on motives, actions and results To use evidence to back up opinions To justify opinions To develop business writing skills

Courage The quality of being brave: the ability to face danger, difficulty, uncertainty, or pain without being overcome by fear or being deflected from a chosen course of action

Overcoming Obstacles Part of being courageous is overcoming obstacles or difficulties They can be internal or external difficulties They can be physical or emotional difficulties

Hollywood and the True Story Hollywood often takes an interesting true story and turns it into a film As viewers we need to think about the changes they may make, the motivations behind those changes and look at the true facts

This unit We will look at news articles reporting on the facts about the people in the films We will look at the Hollywood films and interviews and media clips about the person We will determine if the individuals in these films are courageous or if Hollywood just convinces us they are courageous USE YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS!!!
