LESSON: Multiplying an dividing positive and negative numbers works like this: No negative sign = + answer Ex: 2 * 7 = 14 One negative sign = – answer Ex: 3 * (– 4) = –12 Ex: (– 5) * (5) = –25 Two negative signs = + answer Ex: (– 6) * (– 4) = 24 Three negatives = Four negatives = Five negatives = What is the pattern? Can you make a rule? – answer + answer – answer

Try: 8 * (– 7) = ______ (– 3) * 9 = ______ (– 10) * (– 8) = ______ Do 1 through 6 on W-14 Work the rest of the problems for homework (not including the fractions.) – 56 – 27 – 80

The rules for dividing are the same as for multiplying. Try: 28 (– 7) = ______ (– 63) 9 = ______ (– 160) (– 8) = ______ Do 1 through 21 on W-16 Look at # 28: Do 29 through 31 for your assignment. – 4 – 7 20 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat -4.0 -2.1 1.3 8.2 -3.0 -0.5 -0.6
