Mrs. vargas Chemistry science notebooks Absentee Policy 2016-2017 Honors Chemistry Mrs. vargas 2018-2019 science notebooks Absentee Policy 2016-2017 Yes, we did something important while you were absent. Students are responsible for getting missed work before or after class. Students will have one day for every day absent to complete and submit the missing work. Please check the handout bin and google Classroom for worksheets. Homework that was stamped while the student was absent must be stamped on the day the student returns or it will be counted as late, ½ credit. Homework that was assigned while the student was absent must be stamped the day after the student returns to class. Students are responsible for getting homework stamped before or after class. If a test was administered on a day a student was absent, the student must make arrangements to take the test during lunch on the first day the student returns. All students will be required to keep a science notebook containing class work, homework, as well as other assignments. Homework will be stamped for credit daily and notebooks will be collected and graded bi-weekly. Students will keep a second notebook for lab reports. Students are responsible for bringing BOTH notebooks to class every day and keeping track of their notebooks until they are collected. Late homework and/or homework that has not been stamped but is complete will count as ½ credit. SAFETY During the course of the semester we will be using various chemicals, glassware, and heated materials. In order to maintain the safety of all students, safety rules must be followed at all times. The safety rules are listed on the Safety Contract which must be read and signed by students and parents. Any student unable to follow lab safety rules will receive a zero on the lab. There will be no make-up assignment. Students not wearing goggles during a lab will lose 10 points (25%) on the lab. Plagiarism TEST CORRECTIONS Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught cheating/plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment and the teacher will notify administration and parents. The opportunity for test corrections will be given on some of the multiple choice tests.  Students will be able to recoup ½ point values back for each question corrected. Corrections will only advance a score to 75%. ALL incorrect answers must be completed to get credit. Corrections that do not follow the instructions will not be graded.
